What is Team Teach?

At Gilbert Ward Academy, we place a strong emphasis on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our pupils. To achieve this, we have adopted a specialised approach called Team Teach. Team Teach is a comprehensive training program designed to promote positive behavior, provide staff with de-escalation techniques, and prevent crisis situations in our school community.

Prevention and De-escalation at the Core

Team Teach recognises that prevention is key to maintaining a harmonious educational setting. Our dedicated staff members undergo rigorous training that equips them with the necessary skills and strategies to identify and address challenging behaviors proactively. Balancing the Need for Physical Intervention

While Team Teach primarily emphasises prevention and de-escalation techniques, there are rare occasions where physical intervention may become necessary. This intervention is employed as a last resort when there is an imminent risk of harm to the pupil or others. It is important to note that physical intervention is always used as a means of last resort, with great emphasis on safeguarding the dignity and well-being of our pupils.

Identifying Causes and Preventing Recurrence

In the event of a behavior incident requiring physical intervention, our dedicated staff engages in a reflective process to identify the underlying causes. This crucial step enables us to gain insights into the triggers and individual needs of our pupils, helping us implement personalised strategies to prevent future occurrences. By identifying the root causes and addressing them directly, we work towards creating lasting positive change in the lives of our pupils.
