Prosper Learning Trust Appoint Headteacher for New School Gilbert Ward Academy
Return to Latest NewsProsper Learning Trust are delighted to announce the appointment of Headteacher Designate, Barry Reed, for its new free specialist academy Gilbert Ward Academy in Blyth, Northumberland.
Barry was born in Northumberland and has lived in the county for 28 years. Before returning to the area, he studied BSc (Honours) Science with Education and QTS at Sheffield Hallam University, and also held a post as Head of Year and Teacher of Science in a mainstream secondary school in Sheffield.
Barry has been a teacher and leader in four schools and has six years of experience as a senior leader. He is currently the Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead of an all-through special school in Newcastle upon Tyne. Prior to this role, Barry led an autism specialist provision as Vice Principal and then Acting Principal. He has specialist knowledge of behaviour through experience as a Behaviour Support Trainer.
When asked about his ambitions for Gilbert Ward Academy, Barry commented, “I believe that every child has a right to high quality education and support that prepares them academically, socially and emotionally to live happy and fulfilled lives. My ambition is to do just that. I bring to the role extensive leadership experience within special education, having led special provisions spanning the full age range from 5-25.”
Barry added, “I am looking forward most to meeting the children who will be attending Gilbert Ward Academy and their families. Family is important to me, when I’m not at work I spend time with my wife and daughter, often hiking in the Lake District. I also like cycling and like to explore the North Pennines with friends.”
